Invitation to Marathon Casting

Base slab to be cast for 30 hours

BMC

The construction of Alsik in Sønderborg is reaching a milestone! Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation, together with Enggaard A/S, is inviting any interested residents to celebrate together with us at the construction site on Friday, June 3rd between 12 noon and 2 pm.

The developer and contractor will host the event, offering visitors a hot dog and a soft drink. While enjoying these, visitors can watch the casting of a large base slab under the hotel from the top of the pit.

The construction of Alsik is progressing as planned at Nørre Havnegade 23, where the hotel will soon push skywards. The final concrete pile for now was driven into the ground on April 29, 2016, and all the piles under the hotel itself are now in place. This means that the contractor is ready to start casting the building’s base slab.

The base slab is so big that it will be cast in several stages. But the biggest casting will take place in one consecutive workflow on June 2nd-3rd, 2016. The casting will consist of approx. 4,000 tonnes of concrete that will be driven to the construction site by 220 concrete mixers one by one over the 30 hours the job will take.

This means work will continue overnight, and the municipality has authorised this. Similarly, it has authorised noise outside of normal working hours due to the many concrete mixers that will be driving to the construction site at Nørre Havnegade. The heavy traffic will make Nørre Havnegade difficult for other traffic to access during this period and those living in the area may be inconvenienced by traffic noise.

Visitors to the event at the construction site are therefore advised to drive via Kong Chr. D. X’s Bridge and down Kirkebakken. Parking is available next to the ice cream kiosk or outside Sønderborg Palace.
