On April 12th, 2018, the craftsmen at Alsik were celebrated at a topping-out ceremony of the hotel. Two and a half years have passed since the ground-breaking ceremony. With the help of all the trades, the hotel has now reached its full height of 70 meters. This was celebrated at the construction site with draught beer, sausages and potato salad for all. Also, two cinema tickets were handed out as a gift for each craftsman at Alsik, giving each the opportunity to visit the new cinema in town.

Changed Waterfront
As shown in the film below, speeches were given by the builder, the entrepreneur and the architect. The mayor in Sønderborg, Erik Lauritzen, also participated in the ceremony and did a speech in which he emphasided how happy he is to see the realization of the plan made in 2006 by architect Frank Gehry.

The goal was to change completely the waterfront in Sønderborg, changing the former industrial port into a new part of the town. The construction of Alsik has certainly created much debate along the way. It is no secret that such a special construction will always divide opinions. I am however absolutely convinced that we will all be proud of the hotel in the years to come. Alsik will be an attraction and will bring many new guests to Sønderborg.
