The Alsik building work includes a bridge which connects the multi storey car park with the hotel. This bridge runs straight through the student accommodation building. It allows dry access across the street to anybody who parks in the multi storey car park. The Music Culture House, Alsik and the restaurants, they are only a step away.

A door gives access to Alsik hotel for all guests who are already checked in to the hotel, and thus has an access card at hand.

The bridge is just under 30 metres long and it has a transparent glass façade all the way along.

On Thursday the 1st November 2018, the bridge was lifted into position in three parts. Two of the bridge sections go across Nørre Havnegade. The remaining bridge section links the multi storey car park with the accommodation building. It had to be lifted into position from the yard between the two buildings.

A Total Weight of Over 25 Tonnes

The three bridge sections weigh respectively 9.4, 9.2 and 6.5 tonnes, and were made by Kallehave Steel and Montage in Nordborg.

The installation went smoothly with the first two sections. They were lifted in place over Nørre Havnegade without major problems. They fitted exactly into the prepared holes in Alsik and the accommodation building. Once they were halfway up, they were loaded off onto the stairway and lift tower, which is there to enable access from the bridge to the street.

The third bridge section was the smallest one but nevertheless, it was the one which caused the trickiest positioning. There was not much room for manoeuvring in the yard by the accommodation building. Therefore, constant communication with the crane driver who was steering the load from the opposite side of the building, was necessary.

At the first attempt, the bridge section was delivered at too steep an angle to be placed between the buildings. So, it had to be returned to the yard so that its position could be adjusted. Despite the angle of the bridge section having been corrected, there was still much pushing and shoving, within a tiny space, before it was possible finally to place the bridge section successfully in the prepared mounting frames.

Before the end of the day, the entire bridge had been placed in its correct position. Now all that is left to do, is to cover the bridge and to complete the exterior and interior design.
