On Friday 13 November, the first sod was cut for Alsik, which is what the new hotel in Sønderborg has been named. The hotel will be a landmark and help to realise architect Frank Gehry’s master plan for the new waterfront.

Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation (BMC) is collaborating with PFA on the project.

“We are delighted that the project is now making serious progress. With the hotel project we are demonstrating that we – together with the Municipality and PFA as an investor – have the strength and the will to put Als and Sønderborg on the map”

Peter M. Clausen, Chairman of the BMC Foundation

Alsik will be a four-star hotel with luxury spa, conference facilities and three restaurants. The hotel will have 190 rooms so it will almost double the current hotel capacity in Sønderborg. The hotel will be completed by the beginning of 2019 and will have a viewing platform on its 16th floor from which local residents and visitors will have the unique opportunity to see Sønderborg from above.
