Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation is supporting a comprehensive energy renovation of Augustenborg's old town hall with a grant of DKK 5.5 million, transforming it into a modern health center. The support ensures that the building, which dates from the 1970s, can meet future energy requirements.
Centrally located in the ducal town of Augustenborg, on Louisa Augusta's Square, the old town hall will be transformed into a future-proof health center. The project is being realised through a partnership between Realdania By & Byg, Sønderborg Municipality, and Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation.
To combine the building's local value with modern sustainability requirements, Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation has chosen to support the project's energy renovation.
The donation is intended to ensure a sustainable transformation where as much of the existing building mass as possible is preserved and reused. The project therefore places emphasis on materials, solutions, and technologies that support energy efficiency and long-term durability. The sustainable solutions have been chosen in close collaboration with Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation, and the transformation will serve as a showcase for how partnership—combined with the latest technology, thoughtful planning, and quality—can create unique value in existing and obsolete buildings.
The project includes the architectural adaptation and integration of the building into its historical surroundings, as it is centrally located within the unique cultural environment for which the town intends to seek UNESCO World Heritage status.
Once completed, the new health center will unite various healthcare functions and create a welcoming and safe environment for patients, relatives, and staff. The vision is to create a facility where interdisciplinary collaboration can flourish in an intimate and accessible setting.
The support for the energy renovation aligns with Bitten & Mads Clausen's Foundation's mission to promote sustainable development within the local community. The project is an excellent example of how an existing building can be future-proofed to meet modern energy requirements while simultaneously preserving and respecting the area's unique cultural heritage, thereby protecting the distinct values that promote Augustenborg as the ducal town.
The Foundation looks forward to following the realisation of the new health center and the positive impact it will have on the citizens and the town of Augustenborg.
